Corruption or Bad Laws? Albion Residents Receive Late Night Parking Tickets in Their Own Driveways.
Our birthday guests were awoken at 4:00 am this morning to not a poorly timed surprise party, but police flashlights, and an officer writing them a ticket for parking on the street adjacent to our house. ( Yippee ! 😊 ) The officer proceeded to write another ticket for my moms car which was literally parked in the driveway.
Apparently, blocking a sidewalk is a civil infraction at all times in Albion, Michigan even if that sidewalk runs directly through your driveway.
But wait!
If I can't block the sidewalk at all, and I can't park in the street at night, and there is only enough space in my driveway for one vehicle. Surely the city would make an exception... Right ?
Nope. It's a $20.00 ticket for parking in my own driveway, and a $20.00 ticket for any guests that park on the street.
This currently means that I cannot have company over, and my guests were even told by the officer that we "Should have called and asked the city for permission"
Here are the questions I want answered.
Why should I have to call the city and ask for permission for my relatives to park in front of a house that I purchased, reside in, and pay taxes on?
What kind of city tickets people for parking in their own driveways ?
Why are the Albion police sneaking around my property at 4:00 in the morning, slapping parking tickets on the cars in my driveway while I'm upstairs sleeping in my bed ?
Why are the tickets we received for $20.00 when the 2022 Albion Code of Ordinances that's provided on the City Website lists the fine as only $10.00?
Where is the updated code? And who in this community is voting to double the fines for parking in my driveway?
I have a sneaking suspicion it's the same people responsible for all the potholes.
"Whoever violates any of the provision of the parking regulations of this article shall be fined according to the schedule of parking fines set forth below..." "On sidewalk - 10.00"

Note the $10.00 difference in Prices.
These ordinances are presented under the banner of "public safety", but how is any of this making Albion a safer place to live ? The sidewalk in front of our house is rarely used by anyone walking, we don't live on a busy road, and simply walking around our parked car doesn't pose a threat to anyone.
Please sign the petition to change these regulations, and until then...
Next time your parking overnight in Albion, make sure you have permission 👉👮👮🚓🚓🚓, and if that doesn't work, maybe try hiding your car in one of these massive potholes 👇👇 (Just kidding)
